The archaeological and historical heritage of Karadulena Aranyya Senasanaya
This “Karadulena Aranyya Senasanaya” is in Kegalle district, Paranakuru canton Karadupana and Elkirigala villages are dividing point and this is reveal many historical news. The gold reliquary was the “Hemamala” and prince “Dantha” who was bring tooth relics to Sri Lanka with layup in reliquary is layup in this crypt.
This temple is situated in Colombo-Kandy main road pass through one mile in Kegalle town then turn right side to Meepetiya junction and go 1 ½ milws to Paragammana road there is a small Ben around the ‘Na’ trees. The book “Vegurde Margaya” and “Sadhdarmalankaraya” note about this temple. Thereby beautiful record about a monk “Cheththaguptha” (who was in period of king “Gothabhaya”). Near that crypt there are few crypts with cauldron. The king “Yatilatissa” was built this “Karadulena Viharaya” and built the village name ‘Yaththala’ and flower garden. So gave to this temple.
This “Karadulena Viharaya” was the place which king was worship from period of Kandy. And also the tooth relics was bring from ‘Delgamuwa Viharaya’ to Kandy, the third day night it was layup in this place. This “Karadulena Arayya Senasanaya” use as a hermitage today and it provide many historical details.
