Description |
There are several legends connected with this vihara. It has been reported that a dethis-pala-bodhi(thirty two other saplings) has been planted here.2 The old bodhi at the west of the vihara site has been destructed and another plant could be seen planted at about 1950A.D. The old hexagonal wall made with stones, has been survived even today. In 1215 A.D., when Magha invaded Sri Lanka, the Tooth Relic of Buddha, had been hidden here. Later, King Vijayabahu III took the sacred relic to Dambadeniya. To the north of the bodhi, there’s an inscription belonged to 1765 A.D. It says, that there had been built a poyage at Pusulpitiya according to the higher ordination, brought here from Myanmar, King Kirti Sri Rajasinha too, has sponsored for this task. The viharage at the edge of the north corner of vihara premises, is used as the poyage. At the door, which is to be entered here, the year 1893 A.D. has been mentioned on the door frame, made of stone. Although the building has been constructed during this period, according to the features of architecture, the old vihara is inside it. |
