Description |
Firstly the hermitage can be seen at the entrance to the vihara site. It says that the present avasage had been built and offered by a nobleman in the village, before about 125 years. The avasage is finely designed and created with few rooms (kuti) and an open verandah. Little above the avasage is appearing a drip-ledged cave. Along the too steeper gradient route on westward can be arrived the cave temple (len-vihara). From the early times that the rock has been dug and constructed a stairway to reach len-vihara. One part of the cave is roofed with tiles and the other part is covered with a rock as a natural roof. Cave is consisted of two rooms and a long verandah. The tiled roof is supported by carved wooden pillars at the front of the long verandah. The huge beams that joined with the roof show the traditional wood carvings of Kandyan period. |
Things to See |
On the walls of the cave, are painted jataka stories and suvisi-vivarana, and on the ceiling mara yudhadha and designs of lotus flowers are depicted. All these can be considered as they belong to Kandyan tradition. |
